Shirley was treated for breast cancer in 2016 and is incredibly grateful for the excellent care she was given. Now she’s happily working at the Colchester Cancer Information and Wellbeing Centre. Shirley said: “I feel tremendously proud of what we offer to patients. This is such an important and welcoming centre for people diagnosed with cancer and their families.”

To give back, Shirley decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, bravely climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours (which includes the travel between) with an amazing team of 9 friends and family. They managed to complete Ben Nevis in hot and humid conditions and reach the top of Scafell Pike.

Sadly on the way back to the bottom of Scafell Pike the team were hit with horrific and terrifying weather conditions. From horrendous hail, thunderstorms, rain and gale-force winds, they were hit with it all! This made the trek down extremely dangerous, with many of the team suffering slips. Luckily the team escaped without injury, however the weather slowed them down considerably so they were unable to progress to Snowdon.

Despite the awful conditions Shirley's team have booked to return in September to finish the challenge! They will be taking on Snowdon in testament to Shirley's perseverance and strength.

Wishing Shirley and the team the best of luck and thank you for your wonderful fundraising!
