Halfway: Free hot and colds drinks, water refills, tasty snacks and toilets at The Lambe School, Gaston Street, East Bergholt CO7 6SD
Finish: Car park B, Ipswich Hospital, Heath Road, Ipswich IP4 5PD
Distance: 21 miles – this will take the average walker approx. 8-9 hours. Don’t forget this is a point to point walk, so please ensure you arrange transport home!
Terrain: Gently undulating with sections on and off road
Age: 14 years and over (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event)
Entry: £20 per person or free for ESNEFT staff, students, volunteers and onsite partner organisations
Includes: Free event parking at both hospitals, Hospital Hero t-shirt and bespoke medal
Fundraising target: Suggested minimum £100 per person or £250 per family of three+
You must agree to the terms and conditions of the event. We also need to ensure we have up to date contact details for you in the case of an emergency. It is your responsibility to check the information you have supplied is accurate. We are only responsible for registering you in accordance with the information you provide.
By registering you are agreeing to pay Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity a registration fee of £20.00 for participants over the age of 14 years old.
Withdrawals and transfers
Your registration fee is non-refundable. If for any reason you choose to withdraw from the Hospital Hero Hike, we ask that you advise us as soon as possible.
Registration is unable to be transferred to a different individual. In exceptional circumstances we can transfer your registration over to a similar priced event or to the same event the following year.
Due to health and safety reasons on the day, the event may have to be reduced or altered to accommodate unexpected complications (for example, severe weather).
If the event is cancelled, due to weather or other factors beyond our control, your registration fee will be moved over to the next Hospital Hero Hike event date.
If COVID-19 restrictions require us to cancel the event, a virtual event will be held instead. Details of this will be emailed to you with notice of the event changing.
All participants must be aged over 14 years old. Anyone aged under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event, this includes while on the route.
The Hospital Hero Hike is a fundraising challenge event. By registering a place to participate in the Hospital Hero Hike for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, you undertake to raise a suggested minimum amount of £100 per person in sponsorship or a suggested minimum amount of £250 for a family (of the same household) of 3+ (excluding gift aid and the registration fee).
You agree to pay all sponsorship monies and donations received for the event to Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity within one month of the event taking place.
You agree to comply with any instructions or guidance relating to fundraising and be responsible for any costs, taxes or expenses incurred or arising in connection with raising monies or sponsorship.
You agree to Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity contacting you to discuss your fundraising activity and follow up on your progress.
You agree to encourage donors and/or sponsors to make gift aid declarations where eligible, which may enable Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity to recover basic rate tax on such donations. For further information about Gift Aid visit: www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/gift-aid
Health and fitness
You should satisfy yourself that you are in good health and physically able to participate in the event. You should consult a GP or hospital doctor prior to the event if you have any concerns. Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity advise that training is undertaken before the event to ensure you are able to complete the 21 mile route.
Clothing and personal items
You are advised to wear comfortable clothing and walking footwear for the event. Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity will provide a branded t-shirt as part of your registration, these will be given out on the day of the event.
Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity accept no responsibility for damage or loss of personal property brought into events. We have no storage facilities available to store items while you are away from site, all belongings should be kept with you at all times.
By taking part in this event, you acknowledge that there may be conditions or circumstances beyond our control that can lead to unforeseen risks.
The Hospital Hero Hike 2022 is a 21 mile walk through towns and countryside. The route passes through various different terrains and areas where there are roads and traffic. You agree to take responsibility for your own risk during this event and read all route information guidelines before taking part in the walk.
Use of image
You give permission for the free use of your name, voice or picture in any broadcast, telecast, advertising, promotion or any other account of this event. Photography, or filming of children without first obtaining consent from the legal guardian is strictly prohibited.
Please be aware that by registering you authorise Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity to process your personal and sensitive data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 for the purposes of this event.
Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse entry into or remove from the event any person. This includes, but is not limited to, a person who has behaved in a manner which, in the opinion of Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity;
Has, or is likely to, adversely affect the event or the safety or enjoyment of other participants and spectators.
Who has used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or in any way that provokes a breach of the peace.
Participants/spectators must not drink alcohol or take drugs before or during the event. Individuals who appear to be under the influence of either alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to take part in the event or be a spectator and will be asked to leave.
I hereby apply to participate in this event. I accept and agree that neither the organisers nor officials, the NHS, the Charity, sponsors or fellow competitors shall be liable in any way, or in any circumstances, for damages or injury that I may suffer during this event.
