Buy your butterfly and donate time to families and friends that need it most

A limited edition collection of 1000 metal butterflies, produced locally by Suffolk Ironworks, are available to own as part of the launch of our new Butterfly Appeal. Own your own piece of this wonderful collection and remember your own loved one or one of the thousands of patients visited by the butterfly volunteers every year.

The butterfly, synonymous with end of life, refers to the identical nature of the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly, and how this is similar to the beautiful transitional journey during the end of life.

For £35, you can purchase a metal butterfly and be part of this appeal, giving you the opportunity to give back to the Butterfly Volunteers in our hospitals. 

Giving time to those in the final hours and days of their life. 

See the butterflies before they fly away

Throughout September and October, our butterflies will be vibrantly on display in our hospital grounds. They will be in place to celebrate the wonderful work our butterfly service does to support patients and their families at our hospitals. 

You will be able to see hundreds of our butterflies collectively planted across many of our hospital sites for you to view and enjoy. When the installation is finished, your butterflies will be available for you to collect and plant in your own garden, so you too can remember your loved ones.

Friday 6 September 2024 – Friday 18 October 2024 the installation will be available to view at Ipswich Hospital and Colchester Hospital with displays appearing across a few of our community sites throughout this time.

These beautiful butterflies measure 200mm x 3mm and float delicately on steel rods 1500mm x 6mm. The Butterfly and stake weight approximately 730g. 

Customise your butterfly

• Choose your colour - We have burnished metal and purple to choose from. 
• Choose your site and date for collection – Due to the size these are unable to be posted. Collect your butterfly from Ipswich Hospital on Saturday 26 or from Colchester Hospital on Sunday 27 October. 10am to 2pm for both dates.
