The new £6.2million Breast Care Centre at Ipswich Hospital is on track to be built this year. Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity have confirmed they have just over £500,000 to raise for The Blossom Appeal and building work is due to commence on site in the spring.

The new state-of-the-art centre is to be located in the central outpatients’ area of the hospital. It will transform the experience patients have when they come to hospital by bringing all elements of breast care under one roof – the clinic, the imaging department and hospital breast screening. The centre will make visiting easier for patients and provide them with an environment to match the exceptionally high standards of care they already receive.

Consultant breast surgeon Caroline Mortimer said: “When were informed at the end of last year that construction would start during spring 2022, it was the best Christmas present ever.

“The plans for the new Breast Care Centre are amazing, we are so excited at the prospect of seeing them converted into reality. It will be a wonderful facility which will make such a difference for staff and patients alike.”

Mandy Jordan, Associate Director of Charities and Voluntary Services said: “It’s so exciting to be starting 2022 with such good news for our breast care patients. With building works beginning literally in a matter of weeks, our dream of a patient-focused, Breast Care Centre will soon come true and that feels really good to say!

“However, we are still half a million pounds away from the fundraising target and we need our community’s support to reach it. Everyone can make a difference and every penny counts, so please support us if you can.”
