The Doctors’ Mess at both Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals have recently received some much needed upgrades. Our doctors are now able to enjoy a break away from their clinical duties in a more relaxing environment.

At Colchester we have helped furnish the new Doctors’ Mess, brightening up the space and making it much more comfortable.
In the main mess area doctors can eat at the new dining table and chairs or relax on the sofas and footstalls positioned around the colourful coffee tables. In Sophie’s Room, which is a quiet space for conversation and reflection, there are new recliner chairs and coffee tables.

As you can see from the before and after photos, the addition of new furniture has made a big difference.

Over in Ipswich the Doctors’ Mess garden has been landscaped to function better as an outdoor rest space. The improvements include added borders with aromatic plants, miniature dwarf trees, all year round seasonal interest with flowers and fruit, ornamental bark, decking with comfy seating, and a raised mini herb garden next to a BBQ area.

A big thank you to volunteer, Jack Dawson (pictured above) who helped our Estates team update the garden. He has played a key role in delivering the project.

Peter Chapman, Grounds Manager, said: “The garden is a place where doctors can come to unwind, reflect and take time out, enjoying their surroundings. It was good to utilise charity funding and put it towards something really positive for our doctors”.
