Join us and walk side-by-side with our amazing NHS staff and take part in our popular Hospital Hero Hike!

This year’s exciting event will see participants start their challenge at Ipswich Hospital before enjoying a scenic 21-mile walk through picturesque countryside to reach Colchester Hospital in support of the hardworking staff working at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).

Money raised will go towards providing staff with essential support and resources beyond those the NHS can provide. This includes mental health first aid training to ensure one-to-one help is available for staff in crisis and additional new spaces for restful breaks, together with support for physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.

Stepping up to the challenge are Toni Reed, Jodie Deller, Fran Twumasi and Melissa Ferreira, who all work full-time completing placements at NHS hospitals and community sites while also studying for their nursing apprenticeships.

Toni, apprentice nursing associate said: “I really wanted to take part in the hike to give back to the NHS, especially because it benefits staff wellbeing. Providing extra break areas for staff is really important, especially as there are so many people working across our hospitals.”

It costs £20 to sign up for the hike, which includes snacks, a goodie bag, Hospital Hero t-shirt and a commemorative finisher’s medal.

Cait Pilkington, events fundraising manager for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re really excited about this year’s hike, which we hope will be even bigger and better and supported by our community.

“Sign up today to join hundreds of other walkers in showing gratitude for the NHS staff who dedicate their lives to our health and wellbeing. By taking part in the 2024 Hospital Hero Hike, you can give back and make a meaningful difference to our NHS staff.”

This year’s hike takes place on Saturday 4 May, starting at 10am.
