Kim is stepping out of her comfort zone and stepping into the boxing ring on Saturday 23 March to fight back against cancer.

Kim Williams, a Macmillan link worker at the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre at Ipswich Hospital, is taking part in a charity boxing event to fundraise for the Cancer Wellbeing Fund.

Our Cancer Wellbeing Centres are a space to sit, talk or listen, but also a space to join social activities or talk to a trained professional. The centre teams are always on hand to provide support to those diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment or living with and beyond cancer.

The support they offer across the centres would not be possible without charitable funding; that is why Kim is hoping to raise vital funds to continue the support they provide.

As part of Kim's training she has been completing lots of physical exercise including, running, skipping and sparring three times a week. The event will see Kim complete in three rounds of boxing.

Kim started her career at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) by volunteering at the Vaccination Hub at the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Keen to continue her support, Kim took on different volunteer roles including supporting in the centre. Kim now, alongside a colleague, co-ordinates centre services.

This position has given Kim a real insight into the difference the centre makes to patients and their families. Kim said, "It's wonderful to meet people at different stages of their pathway, helping them with their individual needs and tailoring our approach. It's very rewarding and you get to see appreciation first-hand from patients and their family members. Without the fundraising we wouldn't be able to offer this service".
